Having been a child caught in the middle of family disputes, I bring a unique perspective with focused expertise and honed advocacy skills. At RJSR, we are committed to delivering strategic and effective representation in complex family law matters, with a focus on maximizing value and minimizing unnecessary costs.
Caitlyn Schaffer is a dedicated associate at Reich, Jumbeck, Stole & Reeb LLP, where she focuses on family law, divorce litigation, child custody, negotiated settlements, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and the nuanced field of sports and entertainment family law. A Chicago native, she brings a unique perspective to her practice, having personally experienced a highly contentious child custody case during her own childhood. This personal experience allows her to deeply understand the challenges families face, particularly the long-term impact, making her a relatable and empathetic advocate for her clients.
Caitlyn earned her Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. At Loyola, her commitment to helping families was evident, as she received a Child & Family Law and Advocacy concentration certificate, and a Mediation certificate with the Center for Conflict Resolution.
Her practical experience includes working with the internationally renowned Loyola Civitas Child Law Clinic, where she focused on child custody, visitation, and cases of child abuse and neglect, while also honing her advocacy skills through mediation and negotiation practicums under the mentorship of respected attorneys. Her practical experience extends into the sports and entertainment law arena, where she has worked with NBA, Olympic trial, and Division One athletes, as well as sports industry insiders, agencies, and general managers and counsel, including the Chicago Bulls. This has provided her with a deep understanding and commitment to client confidentiality and personalized legal strategies, establishing her as a trusted advisor with all her clients.
She goes above and beyond for her clients by staying up to date with contemporary family law issues, as shown by her role as executive symposium editor for the Children’s Legal Rights Journal annual symposium and her published work, “In Vitro Fertilization After Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization– The Best Interest of the ‘Embryo’.”
Before law school, Caitlyn built a solid foundation in the legal field through her dedication to access to justice where she supported over a thousand pro se litigants in a single year offering critical legal resources and information to residents across the state through several significant roles, including as a Judicial Extern for Honorable Judge Elizabeth D. Hoskins Dow at the Will County Circuit Court.
Caitlyn’s peers would attest that her commitment to family law and her clients has always been clear, both before and during her time at RJSR, where she continued to gain invaluable hands-on experience in complex family law matters before seamlessly transitioning into her role as an associate.
Outside of her legal practice, Caitlyn loves taking a swing on the tennis court to reminisce her time at Augustana College, where she captained the women’s tennis team, and held the highest record of wins in history.
Caitlyn Schaffer’s diverse experiences, legal acumen, and unwavering commitment to her clients make her an exceptional advocate in the field.
